Pandit Divyang Vakil (affectionately known as “Guruji” to his students) is a virtuoso tabla guru hailing from Gujarat, India. A well-known musician, composer and teacher, he has produced numerous professional tabla players around the world in his nearly 30 years of teaching. He is revered not only for his seemingly inexhaustible knowledge of music, but also due to his close kinship with spirituality. He not only instructs his students in the intricacies of tabla, but he expands their personality, making them musicians in the truest sense of the word. With his years of intense sadhana, kinship with spirituality and philosophy; and incomparable understanding of Indian classical music, students not only learn the commercial and popular forms of tabla, but the spiritual aspects of the art also.
Guruji travels around the world instructing countless in tabla, spirituality and philosophy. More than 10 years ago, he gave up his performing career to dedicate himself to teaching, composing and his own spiritual practices. As a composer, he has nearly 30,000 tabla compositions to his name.
With his blessing and guidance, his students run institute around the world. The mother institute Rhythm RIders Music Institute in located in Ahmedabad, with its sister branch Taalim School of Indian Music in New Jersey. To bring his school, performing groups and musical experiments under one umbrella, Guruji also created Rhythm Riders Music Productions.
Guruji received his own tabla taalim from three prominent maestros of tabla – the late Pandit Sudhirkumar Saxena of Ajrada Gharana, the last doyen of the Delhi Gharana the late Ustad Latif Ahmed Khan and the doyen of Punjab Gharana the late Ustad Alla Rakha.
